Hybrid type kinetic energy harvester using piezoelectric effect and triboelectric effect

In this paper, hybrid type energy harvest device has been designed and manufactured which uses the piezoelectric effect and the triboelectric effect simultaneously. In order to increase the effect of triboelectric effect, we formed the nanostructures on contact surface and maximized the effective contact area. The proposed device was designed so that the piezoelectric effect and the triboelectric effect can be utilized at the same time using vertical vibration and the hinge of two triple joint structure was used for this action. When the vibration is applied in the vertical direction, triboelectric effect can be used by contact between polymer film in center of device and the top plate and piezoelectric effect can be used at the same time by converting vertical vibration into horizontal tension using triple joint hinge structure. Since the piezoelectric material was fabricated in fabric-type, the device can't be destroyed by tension and it has the effect that contact area get enlarged due to effect of tension and so the output from triboelectric effect can be maximized. The fabricated device is supposed to have more piezoelectric effect and also more frictional electrification effect in the higher amplitude and frequency and so we could obtain voltage of 291 Vp-p and 24 Vp-p along with energy of 0.2 mW, 0.12 mW from vertical vibration from amplitude of 22 mm and frequency of 10 Hz.
