특성화 고등학교 영어 수업에 대한 학생 ․ 교사의 인식연구와 수업 활동의 제안

본 연구의 목적은 기존에 시행해 오던 상업계 특성화 고등학교의 영어 수업에 대한 교사, 학습자의 인식을 조사하고 이를 분석하여 특성화 고등학교 설립 목적에 따른 영어 수업 방향을 제시해보는데 있다. 이를 위해서 특성화 고등학교 2학년 학생들의 실제 영어 수업을 참여자 관찰 방법을 통하여 관찰, 분석하고, 수업에 참여하는 교사와 학습자에 대한 설문 조사와 면접 조사를 바탕으로 특성화 고등학교 수업모델을 제시해보고 다음과 같은 연구 결과를 제시해 본다. 첫째, 기존 특성화 고등학교에서 실시하고 있는 수업은 교사주도의 수업으로 독해 활동이 그 중심을 이루고 있으며, 교사와 학습자 간, 학습자와 학습자간의 의사소통이 거의 이루어지지 않은 전통적인 문법 번역식 수업 방법을 통해 학습자의 흥미와 수단적인 방향을 전혀 고려하지 않는 수업이었다. 교사들은 학습자들에게 좀 더 진정성 있는 수업이 시행되어야 한다는 인식을 가지고 있었으며 졸업 후 취업을 목표로 하고 있는 특성화 고등학교 학생의 경우는 이러한 유형의 수업이 선택이 아닌 필수라고 설문조사에서 응답하였다. 결국 특성화 고등학교에서 원하는 수업 내용과 방법은 학생들이 졸업 후 직업환경에서 바로 사용할 수 있는 실용적인 영어내용을 반영해야 하며, 수업 중 영어에 노출되는 기회를 최대한 제공하고, 영어로 표현하는 기회를 주어야 하는 것이라 말할 수 있다. 둘째, 위의 조사를 토대로 특성화 고등학교에서 필요로하는 수업의 여러가지 유형을 연구하고 수업 활동과 평가 기준을 제시해보았다. 교사와 학습자의 요구사항을 최대한 반영하여 수업의 방향을 제시해보았는데 특히 학습자의 요구사항을 최대한 수용하기위해 면담 조사를 통한 수업설계를 시도해보았다. 기존의 획일적인 수업방식에서 탈피하여 의사소통 중심의 말하기 수업과 상황맥락적인 수업을 수용하였다. 말하기 부분의 중요성을 학생들 또한 인식하고 있었기에 이러한 수업 내용은 효과적일것이다. 특성화 고등학교는 설립 목적이 특별한 학교이다. 특히 학생들의 요구와 특성화 고등학교가 지향해야 할 실제적인 영어 수업을 통한 유의미한 영어습득 방향은 계속적으로 발전되어야 하겠다. 이를 위해서는 교사들의 수업 방법 개선 노력과 학생주도의 수업변화 패러다임으로의 변화, 그리고 학교와 교육당국의 전폭적인 지원이 요구된다.

The purpose of this study is to explore new English teaching tasks by investigating an existing English class in the specialized vocational high school in terms of teachers, students, course contents, and topic. In oder to study it, second grade English class was analyzed with participant observation method. On the basis of survey of teachers and students, the specialized vocational high school English teaching model is constructed and then the finding is given like this. Teacher-centered teaching methods have been mainly performed in the class. It was not only the lack of considered communication with between teachers and students but was the lack of students’ interest and motivation for the class. According to the survey for teachers, they answered it is needed for students to be given authentic English class in order to enter the company after their graduation. After all, the English class in the specialized vocational high school should be used practical English so that students can use at work. Students should be exposed to the practical English and English teacher gives them the chances they can use English in the class. On the basis of the survey, four English class tasks were designed. These activities were constructed by using interview survey in order to reflect demand of students at most. They are tried to escape from traditional learning method and want to accept the communicative lesson and contextual situation. Because students already recognized the importance of speaking part as well, they are expected to work very well in the class. Because specialized vocational high school has established different purpose from formal high school, English class that is true to its established purpose is performed. To develop it continuously, the teachers try to revise their English class, the English class will be changed learner-centered, education department and school officials should support it.
