박완서 장편소설 교육 방법 연구 : 『나목』, 『그 많던 싱아는 누가 다 먹었을까』를 중심으로

초록/요약

본고는 장편소설 교육의 의의를 밝히고, 박완서의 소설을 통해 장편소설 교육 방법에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 소설교육이 단편소설 위주로 편중되어 있다는 점과, 장편소설에 적합한 교육 방법이 충분히 논의되지 않았다는 점에 문제를 제기하며, 단편소설과 구분되는 장편소설 교육 방법의 필요성을 밝히고 있다. 장편소설과 단편소설에는 양식적·미학적 차이가 존재하기 때문에 교육에 있어서도 각 장르에 대해 다른 시각으로 접근할 필요가 있다. 단편소설은 단독자로서 개인 삶의 단면을 부각시킨다면, 장편소설은 개인의 사회화를 중심으로 인간의 삶을 다양하고 총체적인 것으로 그려낸다는 데 차이가 있다. 그럼에도 교육 현장에서 현실적인 어려움으로 인해 소설교육의 제재로 주로 단편소설이 활용되고 있으며, 장편소설이 제시되는 경우가 있더라도 장편소설의 특질을 고려하지 않은 교육 방법이 활용되는 경우가 많다. 그러나 장편소설은 세계를 총체적으로 그려낸다는 점에서 그 자체로 단편소설 못지않은 교육적 의의를 지니고 있으며, 이러한 특질에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 한 다양한 교육 방법이 연구될 필요가 있다. 특히 본고에서는 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 고등학교 ‘문학’ 교과서에 실린 작품 중 박완서의 소설을 통해 구체적인 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 문학 교과서에서 실린 박완서의 장편소설은 『나목』과 『그 많던 싱아는 누가 다 먹었을까』 두 편이다. 두 작품이 교과서에 수록된 현황을 학습 목표와 학습 활동, 본문 구성, 기타 자료 제시 등에 따라 구체적으로 살펴보며 문제점을 짚어볼 것이다. 이를 토대로 각 작품의 내용과 특징을 효과적으로 이해할 수 있는 교육 방법을 모색해보고자 한다. 『나목』은 주인공 ‘이경’과 주변 인물들이 다양한 배경과 사건 속에서 성장해 가는 과정을 보여주고 있기 때문에 인물을 활용한 교육 방법을 제시할 것이다. 인물을 중심으로 하는 교육 방법은 인물 목록을 통한 요약하기, 인물 간 관계 파악하기, 인물의 대리 체험을 통한 가치 내면화하기 과정으로 진행된다. 『그 많던 싱아는 누가 다 먹었을까』는 박완서의 자전적 소설인 만큼, 자전적 소설의 특성을 활용한 교육 방법을 제시하고자 하며, 자전적 소설의 특성을 중심으로 소설을 이해한 후 경험을 서사화하는 방법을 통해 창작교육으로 나아가고자 한다.

초록/요약

In this paper, I illuminated the meaning of novel education and conducted a study on its method through Park Wan-Seo's novels. The paper raised the issue of fiction education focused on short stories without much discussion on teaching methods suitable for novels, and revealed the necessity of teaching methods of novels that are distinguished from those of short stories. In particular, the paper will present concrete methods through Park Wan-Seo's novels among the works published in high school textbooks on 'literature' according to the 2009 Revised Curriculum: <The Naked Tree> and <Who Ate Up All the Shinga>. The paper will look into the present condition of the two works published in textbooks by reviewing the aims of the lesson, learning activities, the organization of the text, and other data, and find out problems. Then, the paper will find teaching methods that give an effective understanding of the content and characteristics of each work. Since <The Naked Tree> shows the process that main character 'Ikyung' and other characters grow in a variety of backgrounds and accidents, the paper will present teaching methods using characters. Teaching methods focusing on characters consist of the following process: summary through the list of characters, understanding of relationship between characters and internalization of value through the vicarious experience of characters. As <Who Ate Up All the Shinga> is Park Wan-Seo's autobiographical novel, the paper will give teaching methods utilizing the characteristics of such a novel, and proceed to education on writing by narrating experience after understanding her novel considering the characteristics of an autobiographical novel.
