초록/요약
본 연구는 영어를 외국어로 학습하고 있는 한국의 영어 학습자에게 중요한 영어 학습 대상이 되는 EBS 영어 수능 연계 교재에 나타난 경동사 make와 take의 연어 쓰임을 분석하여 해당 교재가 실제 진정성을 반영하고 있는지 알아보고자 한다. 우선 2011년에 출판된 EBS 영어 수능 연계 교재 6권을 대상으로 코퍼스를 구축한 후, MonoConc Pro를 사용하여 경동사 make와 take의 연어를 분석하였다. 그리고 브라운 코퍼스를 비교 분석의 기준으로 EBS 교재가 원어민 코퍼스의 연구 결과를 얼마나 잘 반영하는지 알아보았다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, make와 take의 의미 갈래 가운데 브라운 코퍼스와 EBS 교재에서 모두 경동사가 차지하는 비율이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 경동사 구문이 실제 원어민에 의해서 자주 사용되고 있음을 알려줄 뿐만 아니라 이러한 점을 EBS 교재에서도 적극 반영하였음을 보여준다. 둘째, 경동사 구문은 주로 구어체에서 사용되는 특징이 있지만, EBS 교재에서는 구어체로 구성된 교재보다 문어체로 구성된 교재에서 경동사 구문이 자주 사용되는 경향을 보였다. 이는 구어체가 사용된 듣기 교재에 경동사 구문이 문어체에 비해 많이 반영되지 않았으며, 구어체 교재에서 경동사 구문의 비중을 좀 더 높일 필요가 있음을 보여준다. 셋째, EBS 교재에서 경동사 구문이 차지하는 비중이 가장 높았음에도 불구하고 경동사와 결합하는 연어는 make a reservation과 같은 일부 단어에 편중되어 나타났다. 이는 EBS 교재가 특정 연어 갈래에 집중되었다는 것을 의미하며 코퍼스에 제시된 고빈도 연어를 중심으로 다양한 연어를 반영할 필요가 있음을 의미한다. 이상의 연구 결과는 학습에 어려움을 느끼는 경동사 구문이 실제 원어민 화자에 의해 자주 사용되고 있는 표현 위주로 반영될 필요성을 보여주며, 의사소통 중심의 교육을 위해 교실 현장의 경동사에 대한 교육의 당위성을 뒷받침하는 근거를 제시해준다는 점에서 향후 EBS 편찬에 중요한 지침이 될 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to examine whether the English textbooks published by EBS (Educational Broadcasting System) in 2011 well present the light verb collocation by comparing its frequencies in these textbooks to those in the Brown Corpus. The study proceeds through the following steps. First, I selected six different EBS English textbooks published in 2011 and saved them as text files to perform corpus-based analysis. Second, I used MonoConc Pro to analyze the light verb collocations of make and take from the EBS textbooks. Third, I investigated the usage of light verb collocations in EBS textbooks in comparison to those in the Brown Corpus. The findings of this study are as follows. First, light verb collocation is presented with the highest frequency among the meanings of selected verbs in both EBS textbooks and the Brown Corpus. This proves not only that light verb collocations are frequently used by native speakers of English but also that their frequency is reflected in EBS textbooks. Second, light verb collocations are more frequently presented in written language textbooks than in those textbooks of colloquial language. It is against the general tendency that light verb collocations are more frequently used in spoken English. It implies that light verb collocations need to be used more often in EBS spoken language textbooks. Lastly, even though light verb collocations are easily found in EBS textbooks, they tend to focus overtly on certain collocations such as make a reservation. It indicates that EBS textbooks should organize various light verb collocations in a more balanced way according to the authentic corpus data. The findings presented in this study suggest that future EBS textbooks should include various light verb collocations.
