초록/요약
문학을 교육하는 것은 문학의 성격상 다른 내용교과를 교육하는 것과는 근본적으로 다르다고 할 수 있다. 문학은 단순한 언어로 된 표현물 이상이다. 문학은 언어 문화 유산임과 동시에 인간의 미적 정서를 자극하는 예술품이며 인간 상상력의 소산이고 인생을 표현한 창조물이다. 즉 문학이란 언어와 문자를 통하여 인생을 구체적으로 탐구하고 표현하는 창조의 세계라 할 수 있으며 이러한 문학을 교육적 적용을 통해 교육 현장에서 끌어들이는 것을 문학 교육이라 할 수 있다. 소설은 세계의 형상을 언어로 담아내고, 세계 속에 존재하는 허구이다. 독자는 소설을 읽으며 상상력을 작동시켜 현실 세계의 한계를 벗어나 창조적 삶을 모색한다. 전통적으로 우리의 문학 교육의 목표는 문학작품을 즐겨 읽고, 아름다운 정서와 상상력을 기르게 한다는 데에 치중되어 왔다. 이는 문학을 상상의 세계를 표현한 것으로 보는 관점 이어서 문학의 사실성이 배제되어 있으며 문학적 정서를 아름다운 정서에 한정시킴으로써 문학의 영역을 지나치게 협소화한 감이 없지 않다. 문학적 상상력은 문학의 매재인 언어를 매개로 한 상상력이다. 낭만주의 시론에서는 상상력을 정서환기효과로 보아 이미지 형성력이라 규정하고 이성과 대립되는 작용으로 치부했지만, 언어적인 상상력은 이성과 정서를 함께 포괄하는 매우 폭넓은 것으로 규정되어야 한다. 문학적 문화의 향상을 목적으로 하는 문학교육에서 상상력의 세련이 갖는 의미는 작품해석의 심화, 인간적 가치의 체험과 실현, 삶에 대한 비전의 발견 등으로 요약할 수 있다. 이것은 인간적인 가치를 체험할 수 있도록 해 주며 또 그 실현을 위해 노력하는 자세를 함양시켜준다. 문학교육의 의의 가운데 하나가 문학적 상상력의 세련이라고 한다면 먼저 상상력의 속성이 밝혀져야 할 것이다. 그리고 상상력 일반의 속성보다는 문학적 상상력으로 그 개념이 정련되어야 한다. 아울러 상상력이 세련된 결과로 기대되는 효과까지 밝혀져야 할 것이다.

To educate literature is, in literature's character, fundamentally different from to educate other subjects. Literature is more than simple expression itself by language. Literature is cultural remains of language, at the same time, art works stimulating human aesthetic emotion, a product of human imagination, and a creature expressing life. That is, literature is the world of creation to specifically explore and express life through language and letters, and literature education is to bring literature to education field through its educational application. Novel expresses shape of the world with language and is fiction existed in the world. Readers read novel and imagine. As a result, they seek creative life going beyond real world. Traditionally, the purpose of our literary education focused on enjoying reading literary works and developing beautiful emotion and imagination. This reflects an idea where literature expresses world of imagination. So realistic aspect of literature is excluded and by limiting literary emotion to beautiful emotion, category of literature excessively becomes narrow. Literary imagination is imagination with a medium of language. Romanticism poetics regarded imagination as emotion rousing effect and defines image formation power and defined imagination as power to form imagination. So it was thought that imagination works against reason. But imagination with language should be defined as a thing which is a very wide comprehending reason and emotion. The meaning of refined imagination in literary education with a purpose of improvement of literary culture can be summarized as deepened interpretation of works, experience and realization of human value, discovery of vision about life etc. This makes one experience human value and makes one strive for its realization. If one of meanings in literary education is refined literary imagination, first of all, attribute of imagination should be figured out. And its concept should be refined by literary imagination rather than general attribute of imagination. At the same time, expected effects as a result of refined imagination should be figured out.
