In this paper, I study a relation of wives'' labor participation and income inequality and bi-polarization. After IMF Crisis, there has been a dispute about that Korea''s income inequality and bi-polarization have increased because the middle-class households collapsed. Income inequality and bi-polarization can make a big problem in this society. So we focus on wives'' labor participation when analysing income inequality and bi-polarization. To analyze the relation, I divide family income into two source: husbands'' earnings and wives'' earnings using KHIES(Korean Household income and Expenditure Survey) data. I will analyze the change of coefficient of variation and Gini coefficient when wives participate in the labor market. And I will analyze bi-polarization using improved bi-polarization index. The results show that wives'' labor participation have increased and income inequality also has increased from 1998 to 2003 in all families. The households'' income inequality which wives participate also have increased but the income inequality is smaller than all families'' income inequality. Bi-polarization has increased from 1998 to 2003 in all families. The households'' income inequality which wives participate are smaller than all families''.
