초록/요약
동서 냉전구도의 산물로 이루어진 분단은 오늘날 남과 북의 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 모든 면에서 이질성을 낳는 원인이 되고 있다. 그러나 한반도의 분단을 낳은 세계의 냉전구도는 구소련의 붕괴와 함께 급속도로 와해되었다. 또한 2000년 6월 15일 평양에서 열린 남북 정상회담으로 상징되듯 남북의 관계는 적대적 관계에서 화해와 협력의 관계로 돌아서는 등 한반도 내외의 정세 또한 통일을 긍정적으로 인식할 수 있게 하고 있다. 그러나 남과 북은 오랜 기간 동안 교류가 없어 이질화가 심화되어 남북통일에 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 이런 상태에서 통일이 이루어지는 것 또한 문제가 아닐 수 없다. 따라서 지금의 통일 교육은 이질성을 극복하여 최소화하고 동질성을 확보하는 방향으로 나아가야 할 것이다. 본 연구는 남북한 역사 교과서의 서술 분석을 주로 연구 대상으로 삼되 이를 이질성을 극복하기 위해 남북 교과서 서술의 상이함을 지적하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 민족 동질성을 회복하기 위해서는 남북한이 서로 역사인식의 차이를 극복해야 하는데, 이를 위해선 남과 북의 역사를 객관적으로 살피는 일이 선행되어야 할 것이기 때문이다. 본 연구는 7차 교육과정에 맞춘 고등학교 『한국 근,현대사』교과서와 북한의 『조선력사』교과서를 가지고 남북한 근대사 부분 서술을 비교 분석하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 교과서 서술 분석에 앞서 남북한의 교육이념 및 살펴보고 역사교과의 운영 실태에 대해 분석하여 교과서 서술 분석에 대한 이해를 돕도록 하였다. 남한은 한국사를 구조적으로 이해하면서 비판적 사고력을 가진 민주시민으로 양성함을 목표로 하고 있는데 반해, 북한은 인민들의 반봉건 반외세 투쟁을 본받으며 김일성 부자에게 충성하는 공산주의 혁명가를 양성하는데 역사 교육의 목표를 두고 있다. Ⅲ장에서는 남과 북의 교과서 서술의 공통점과 차이점을 밝히고 이를 통해 남북의 역사서술의 특징을 살펴보았다. 나아가 이러한 분석을 통해 역사인식의 이질성을 극복할 수 있는 방안을 연구할 수 있는 초석을 마련하고자 하였다. 역사는 보는 시각에 따라 그 의미와 해석이 다양하기 때문에 남북한의 역사인식의 차이에 따른 서술의 다름 또한 당연한 일이다. 그러나 이는 민족 동질성 회복에 장애물이 되고 있다. 앞으로 더욱 철저하게 북한 교과서 분석을 통해 이질성을 극복하기 위한 연구가 모색되어야 할 것이고 본 연구가 미력하나마 연구의 발판을 마련하려고 하였다. 일방적으로 북한의 역사 인식과 서술을 비판할 것이 아니라 연구 결과를 토대로 이질적인 면과 동질적인 면을 고려하여 우리의 역사를 만들어 나가는 하나의 계기로 삼아야 한다.

As an unfortunate result of the Cold War, Korea has divided into two countries, the South and the North. Until now this fact of the country division has been the cause of much alienness between two Koreas in every social arena of politics, economy and culture. The Cold War was over soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union only leaving the two Koreas divided. Also, as seen in the case of the inter-Korean summit held on 15 June 2000 in Pyeongyang, the inter-Korean relationship is turning into a phase of compromise and corporation from that of hostility giving a positive sign for a future unification. However, the fact that there hasn''t been much exchange between two Koreas becomes a huge barrier for the unification. Therefore, the question of today''s education in this area is how we can step forward to minimize the alienness by overcoming and regain the shared identity. This study focuses on analyzing the descriptions of history textbook in two Koreas while mainly pointing out the difference between these two countries. Overcoming the difference between each other''s perception of history is the first stage for recovering the ethnic identity. For this, one has observe the history of the South and the North in a very objective point of view. This study compares and analyzes 『Korean Modern History』, the high-school textbook in South Korea focusing on the 7th course of education and 『Chosun History』, the North Korean history textbook. Before analyzing the description of textbooks, Chapter II helps to understand the description of textbook by examining the principles of education in two Koreas and analyzing the situations of administering the history curriculum. While South Korea aims to train as a democratic citizen with understanding the structure of Korean history and critical thinking, the history education of North Korea aims to train communist revolutionaries with semi-feudalistic ideas and loyalty to Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Chapter III looks into the characteristics of historical description of two Koreas through the similarities and differences of the textbook description in two Koreas. Furthermore, such analysis intends to put a stepping-stone for finding out the way to overcome such alienness between two Koreas. Since the history has different meanings and interpretations depends on different perspectives, it is quite reasonable that the descriptions of textbook in two Koreas are different due to different perceptions on the history. This is one of the barriers in recovering the national identity. Further studies on the North Korean textbooks are much needed in order to overcome the alienness and this study should be a stepping-stone for this long journey.
