The manufacturing industry is the key to the sustaining economic growth of Korean Economy. But the international competitiveness of Korean manufacturing industry has shown weakening trend in terms of Commodity structure. The price competitiveness has been maintained. But the technological competitiveness has declined. Consequently, the market share and the terms of trade has shown quite contrasting performances. The former has been stable, but the latter has deteriorated consistently. To overcome these structural problems of the competitiveness of Korean manufacturing industry, the presently dominating money market oriented policy should be adjusted to the balanced shape with the real market oriented logic. The sound financial structure of firms and the potentiality of industrial growth need to be considered with the balanced weight from now on.
