초록(요약문)
This study explored the career change experiences of former K-pop ‘idol’ trainee using the Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) method. Specifically, it aimed to thoroughly investigate their experiences during the process from entering, living and leaving the trainee life to their subsequent career re-establishment. As participants, 10 adults (1) who started their idol trainee life before the age of 19, (2) sustained it for at least six months, (3) subsequently left/were eliminated mid-way (4) and either changed or is preparing to change their career were recruited. The data were collected via semi-structured interviews and analyzed afterward. The analysis results yielded a total of 5 domains, 11 sub-domains, 100 categories, and 22 sub-categories. The first domain, 'Entry into Trainee Life,' included a total of 5 categories, such as 'Interest in singing/dancing' and 'Being casted by the agency.' The second domain, 'Trainee Life,' included a total of 4 sub-domains ('Training environment,' 'Positive experiences,' 'Negative experiences,' 'Coping with difficulties') and 18 categories, including 'Evaluative environment'(under ‘Training environment’) and 'Feeling daunted or depleted'(under ‘Negative experiences’). The third domain, 'Leaving Trainee Life,' included a total of 3 sub-domains ('Reason for leaving,' 'Reactions of those around to leaving,' 'Psycho-emotional impact of leaving') and 25 categories, such as 'Fatigue with trainee life'(under ‘Reason for leaving’) and 'Shame and wariness against external reactions'(under ‘Psycho-emotional impact’). The fourth domain, 'Career Re-establishment,' included a total of 4 sub-domains ('Considerations in choosing a new career,' 'Coping strategies in the career re-establishment process,' 'Difficulties in the career re-establishment process,' 'Things that helped in the career re-establishment process'), and 45 categories and 19 sub-categories, including 'Searching for realistic career compromises'(under ‘Coping strategies’), 'Alienation and isolation'(under ‘Difficulties’), and 'Advice and feedback from others'(for ‘Things that helped’). The fifth domain, 'Suggestions for Helping Former Trainee,' included a total of 10 categories and 3 sub-categories, such as 'Psychological support' and 'Networking with other former trainee.‘ Based on the research findings, the characteristics observed in the leaving and re-establishing process of former idol trainee were interpreted. Furthermore, implications for psychological and career counseling for them were drawn, and the study's significance, limitations, and suggestions for future research were proposed.

본 연구는 합의적 질적 연구(Conseusual Qualitative Research: CQR) 방법을 활용하여 아이돌 가수 연습생 이탈자의 진로 변경 경험을 탐색하였다. 구체적으로 이들의 연습생 진입부터 연습생 생활, 이탈, 진로 재정립에 이르는 과정에서의 경험을 상세히 탐색하고자 하였다. 연구 참여자로 만 19세 미만 청소년기에 아이돌 가수 연습생 생활을 시작하여, 이를 6개월 이상 지속했으며, 이후 중도 이탈/탈락해 진로를 변경했거나 변경을 준비 중인 성인 10명을 모집하여 반구조화 면접을 실시했으며, 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 분석을 진행하였다. 분석 결과 총 5개의 영역과 11개의 하위영역, 100개의 범주, 22개의 하위범주가 도출되었다 첫 번째 영역. ‘연습생 진입’ 계기에서는 ‘노래/춤에 대한 흥미’, ‘기획사의 캐스팅’ 등 총 5개의 범주가 도출되었다. 두 번째 영역 ‘연습생 생활’에서는 ‘연습 환경’, ‘긍정적 경험’, ‘부정적 경험’, ‘어려움에 대한 대처’ 총 4개의 하위영역과 ‘평가적인 환경’(연습 환경), ‘심리적 위축 및 탈력감’(부정적 경험)의 부정적 경험 등 총 18개의 범주가 도출되었다. 세 번째 영역 ‘연습생 이탈’은 ‘이탈 계기’, ‘이탈에 관한 주변의 반응’, ‘이탈에 따른 심리·정서적 영향’ 총 3개의 하위영역과 ‘연습생 생활에 대한 피로’(이탈 계기), ‘수치심 및 주변 반응 경계’(심리·정서적 영향) 등 총 25개의 범주를 포함하였다. 네 번째 영역 ‘진로 재정립’에서는 ‘새로운 진로 선택에서의 고려사항’, ‘진로 재정립 과정에서의 대처’, ‘진로 재정립 과정에서의 어려움’, ‘진로 재정립 과정에서 도움이 된 것’ 총 4개의 하위영역, ‘현실적인 진로타협안 탐색’(대처), ‘소외 및 고립’(어려움), ‘주변의 조언과 피드백’(도움) 등 총 45개의 범주와 19개의 하위범주가 도출되었다. 다섯 번째 영역 ‘연습생 이탈자를 위한 도움 제언’에서는 ‘심리적 지원’, ‘타 연습생 이탈자와의 네트워킹’ 등 총 10개의 범주와 3개의 하위범주가 도출되었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 아이돌 연습생 이탈자의 진로 이탈 및 재정립 과정에서 나타나는 특징을 해석하고, 이들을 위한 심리 및 진로 상담에서의 함의를 도출하였으며, 본 연구의 의의와 한계 및 후속 연구를 제안하였다.
