오늘날 우리는 기후변화, 생물 다양성 감소, 자연재해로 인한 사회적 약자들의 고통 심화 등 전례 없는 생태위기 속에서 하느님, 인간, 다른 피조물 간의 관계를 근본적으로 성찰해야 할 신학적 도전에 직면해 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 문명적 위기에 대한 신학적 응답으로서 ‘삼위일체적 케노시스(자기비움)’를 핵심 개념으로 삼아, 위르겐 몰트만(Jürgen Moltmann)의 삼위일체론과 창조신학을 이론적 토대로 설정하고, 올리베따노 성 베네딕도 수녀회의 영성과 공동체적 삶 속에서 그 실천적 가능성을 탐색한다. 몰트만의 케노시스 신학은 전능한 군주 하느님 이미지를 벗어나, 피조물의 고통에 능동적으로 참여하는 삼위일체 하느님의 자기제한과 연대의 사랑을 강조함으로써, 생태적 책임과 공동체적 윤리를 위한 새로운 신학적 패러다임을 제시한다. 본 연구는 이러한 삼위일체 신학의 틀을 바탕으로 ‘삼위일체적 공동체성 안에서의 약함으로서의 케노시스’를 중심 개념으로 삼아, 성 베네딕도 규칙서와 수녀회 회헌에 담긴 ‘약함의 영성’과 ‘공동체성’이 어떻게 생태적 감수성과 연결되는지를 분석한다. 특히 “십자가의 약함 안에 드러난 하느님의 사랑”이라는 수녀회의 핵심 영성은, 권력과 지배의 논리를 전복하고, 관계와 친교, 그리고 모든 피조물들과의 조화를 지향하는 생태 공동체의 신학적 토대를 형성한다. 이러한 고찰은 단순한 환경보호를 넘어, 삼위일체적 사랑과 자기비움의 영성을 바탕으로 하는 새로운 삶의 방식과 신앙 공동체의 방향성을 모색하며, 수녀회 설립 100주년을 준비하는 수도공동체의 정체성과 소명을 재조명하는데 기여하고자 한다. 본 연구는 생태적 위기 시대에 수도 영성과 생태 신학의 통합적 접근이 지닌 신학적 의미와 실천 가능성을 제시하며, 지속 가능한 미래를 위한 교회와 공동체의 응답 방향을 모색하는 데 학문적 의의를 둔다.

Today, we are facing an unprecedented ecological crisis marked by climate change, the loss of biodiversity, and the intensifying suffering of the socially vulnerable due to natural disasters. This crisis demands a fundamental theological reflection of the relationships between God, humanity, and the rest of creation. In response, this study proposes Trinitarian kenosis—self-emptying love within the Triune God—as a central theological principle. Grounded in Jürgen Moltmann’s Trinitarian theology and doctrine of creation, this research explores the ecological and spiritual potential embedded in the spirituality and communal life of the Olivetan Benedictine Sisters of Busan. Moltmann’s theology of kenosis moves away from the image of an omnipotent monarch God and instead emphasizes the self-limitation and loving solidarity of the Triune God who actively participates in the suffering of creation. In doing so, it offers a new theological paradigm for ecological responsibility and communal ethics. Based on this Trinitarian theological framework, this study centers on the concept of “kenosis as weakness within Trinitarian community,” analyzing how the ‘spirituality of weakness’ and ‘communal life’ expressed in the Rule of St. Benedict and the Constitutions of the Sisters are intrinsically connected to ecological sensitivity. In particular, the core spirituality of the Sisters—“the God's Love Revealed in the Weakness of the Cross”—subverts the logic of power and domination, and instead provides a theological foundation for an ecological community grounded in relationship, communion, and harmony with all creatures. Going beyond mere environmental protection, this study seeks to discern a new way of life and vision for faith communities grounded in Trinitarian love and kenotic spirituality. In light of the 100th anniversary of the congregation’s founding, the study also reflects on the identity and vocation of monastic communities as ecological witnesses. It highlights the theological significance and practical potential of integrating monastic spirituality with ecological theology in the face of today’s ecological crisis, and offers pathways for the Church and faith communities toward a more sustainable future.
