초록
본 연구에서는 성인 딸이 지각한 어머니의 자기애와 학대적 양육태도가 자신의 공 동의존성과 자기애적 취약성에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 연구 1 에서는 아동기 애착외상 및 개인상담 경험이 있는 만 19세 이상의 성인 여성을 대상 으로 온라인 설문을 실시하였다. 총 269명(N=269)의 자료를 바탕으로 어머니의 자기 애가 어머니의 심리적 통제, 딸의 심리적 부모화를 통해 공동의존성과 자기애적 취약 성으로 정의한 딸의 성격 특성에 영향을 미치는 경로의 구조모형을 검증하였다. 연구 2에서는 연구 1 참여자 중 어머니의 자기애와 자신의 공동의존성 점수가 높고, 5회기 이상의 개인상담 경험이 있다고 보고한 성인 여성 참여자를 선정하였다. 선별된 참여 자 총 12명(n=12)을 대상으로 반구조화 된 면접질문지를 바탕으로 심층면접을 실시하 였다. 수집된 면접 자료는 Elo와 Kyngäs(2008)의 지시적 내용 분석 방법을 사용해 분 석하였다. 연구 1의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니의 자기애와 심리적 통제, 딸의 심리적 부모화, 공동의존성과 자기애 적 취약성으로 정의한 딸의 성격 특성 간 유의한 정적상관을 보였다. 둘째, 어머니의 자기애가 딸의 성격 특성에 영향을 미치는 과정을 어머니의 심리적 통제와 딸의 심리적 부모화가 순차적으로 완전매개 하였다. 어머니의 자기애와 자신의 공동의존성 점수, 5회 이상의 상담경험으로 선별한 참여 자(n=12)들의 면접 자료를 지시적 내용분석 한 연구 2의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘어머니의 자기애적 특성’ 주요 범주에서 ‘과시성’, ‘외적가치 집착, 중시’, ‘우월감’, ‘칭찬, 찬사요구’, ‘특권의식’, ‘착취성’, ‘공감능력의 결여’, ‘질투’, ‘오만한 태도’의 9개 하위범주에 해당하는 참여자들의 진술을 확보하였다. 둘째, ‘어머니의 학대적 양육태도’ 주요범주에 ‘신체적 학대’, ‘신체적 방 임’, ‘정서적 방임’, ‘정서적 학대’의 총 4개의 하위범주가 도출되었다. 셋째, ‘어머니의 학대적 양육태도에 따른 딸의 대처양식’ 주요범주에 ‘심리적 부모화’, ‘자기표현 억제’, ‘순응과 복종’의 총 3개의 하위범주가 도출되었다. 넷째, 어머니의 자기애와 학대적 양육태도가 자신의 성격에 영향을 미쳤다는 참여 자들의 자세한 진술을 토대로 ‘딸의 성격 특성’ 주요범주에 ‘부정적 자기상’, ‘부정적 타인상’, ‘공동의존성’, ‘자기애적 취약성’의 4개 하위범주를 도출하 였다. 다섯째, 딸의 부정적 자기상, 타인상과 같은 성격 특성이 대인관계 문제에 영향을 미치는 구체적인 과정에 대한 진술을 통해 ‘딸의 대인관계 문제’ 주요범주에 ‘집 착과 의존’, ‘순종’, ‘고립’, ‘공격’의 하위범주를 도출하였다. 마지막으로, 참여자들의 현재 어머니와의 관계에 대한 보고를 통해 ‘현재 어머니 와의 관계’ 주요범주에 ‘해결되지 않은 상처와 적개심’, ‘통찰과 성장’의 2개 하위범주를 도출하였다. 양적연구와 질적연구를 혼합한 본 연구의 결과는 첫째, 성인 딸의 관점에서 어머니 의 자기애가 학대적 양육태도에 미친 영향, 그리고 자신의 현재 성격 특성으로 이어 지는 과정을 구체적으로 확인하여 관련 실증연구를 유의미하게 확장하였다. 둘째, 어 머니의 자기애와 딸의 공동의존성 점수가 높아 임상집단을 대표하는 것으로 가정한 소수를 대상으로 한 질적연구를 통해 자기애적 어머니로부터 성장과정에서 학대적 양 육태도를 경험한 성인 여성 내담자의 성격과 대인관계 양상에 대한 구체적 실증자료 를 수집하여 관련 해외 임상 연구를 확장하였다. 본 혼합연구 결과는 자기애적 어머 니의 특성과 학대적 양육태도 그리고 이와 같은 애착외상 경험이 딸의 공동의존성과 자기애적 취약성에 영향을 미치는 과정을 확인한 최초의 실증연구로, 치료적 개입과 예방적 상담에 대한 함의도 있다. 본 연구의 의의, 제한점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언, 그리고 치료적 함의를 종합논의에 포함하였다.

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of the perceived maternal narcissism and abusive parenting on adult daughters' codependency and narcissistic vulnerability. In Study 1, a total of 269 adult women (N=269) who had childhood attachment trauma and personal counseling experience participated in the online survey. Structural equation model analysis was conducted to confirm the effect of maternal narcissism on the daughter's personality, defined as codependency and narcissistic vulnerability, through maternal psychological control and the daughter's psychological parentification. In Study 2, 12 participants (n=12) with high levels of maternal narcissism, their codependency and more than five sessions of personal counseling experience were selected from the participants in Study 1. In-depth interviews were conducted based on a semi-structured interview questionnaire. The collected interview data were analyzed using the directed contents analysis of Elo and Kyngäs (2008). The results of Study 1 are as follows. First, there were significant correlations between maternal narcissism, maternal psychological control, and the daughter's psychological parentification and personality. Second, maternal psychological control and daughter's psychological parentification completely mediated sequentially the effect of maternal narcissism on daughter's personality. The results of Study 2 are as follows. First, in the main category of 'maternal narcissistic traits', nine subcategories were obtained: 'exhibition', 'obsession of external values', 'superiority', 'demand for praise', 'entitlement, exploitation', 'lack of empathy', 'jealousy', and 'arrogant attitude'. Second, a total of 4 subcategories of 'physical abuse', 'physical neglect', 'emotional neglect', 'emotional abuse', were derived in the main category of 'maternal abusive parenting'. Third, In the main category of the 'daughter's coping style with the maternal abusive parenting attitude', three subcategories were derived: 'psychological parentification', 'suppression of self-expression', 'conformity and obedience'. Fourth, In the main category of 'daughter's personality', four subcategories were derived: 'negative self-image', 'negative other's image', 'codependency', and 'narcissistic vulnerability'. Fifth, the main category of 'daughter's interpersonal problems', subcategories of 'obsession and dependence', 'obedience', 'isolation', and 'aggression' were derived. Finally, two subcategories of 'unresolved emotion' and 'change and growth' were derived in the main category of 'current relationship with mothers'. The results of this study have implications for treatment intervention and preventive counseling of adult women abused by narcissistic mothers, and contribute to the study of daughters with narcissistic mothers in Korea. The specific implications, limitations, and suggestions for further study were included in the discussion.
