초록 (요약문)
The purpose of this thesis is to determine if giving students instruction on the etymology of scientific terms results in better retention and understanding of scientific knowledge. As discussed in the results, it was shown that this method was correlated with a higher score on the tests designed to measure the understanding and recall of scientific terms and their meanings. Learning the origin of words will help the students recall their meaning, be constructive for better competency in English, and improve their English and their understanding of scientific knowledge. As a result, students will have a better opportunity for English L2 acquisition since understanding the origin and meaning of English words itself should precede first to make the learning more successful.

이 논문의 연구 목적은 학생들에게 과학 용어의 어원에 대한 교육이 과학 지식을 더 잘 이해하고 기억하는 것에 도움을 줄 수 있는지 확인하는 것이다. 결과에서 논의된 바와 같이, 이 방법은 과학 용어와 그 의미에 대한 이해와 기억의 정도를 측정하기 위해 고안된 시험에서 더 높은 점수와 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 단어의 기원을 배우는 것은 학생들이 단어의 의미를 스스로 상기시키고, 영어 능력을 향상시키기 위해 유용하며, 학생들의 영어와 과학 지식에 대한 이해를 향상시키는데 도움을 줄 것이다. 이에 따라, 영어단어 자체의 기원과 의미에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 보다 성공적인 학습을 할 수 있기 때문에 학생들은 제 2외국어인 영어를 습득할 더 나은 기회를 갖게 될 것이다.
