Biohybrid robot composed of muscle bundle/hyaluronic acid modified gold nanoparticles to monitor inotrope effect

초록/요약

Biohybrid robotics has the potential to dynamically sense, respond and adapt to changing environmental loads, therefore it can be applied for drug screening instead of human clinical trials. However, since the muscle cell-based bioactuator has a limitation that the driving force is weak, it is difficult to evaluate effect of the drugs by distinguishing changes in the motion of the biohybrid robot. To overcome this limitation, in this study, hyaluronic acid modified gold nanoparticle (HA-AuNPs) was introduced into muscle bundle based biohybrid robot which move forward in response to electrical stimulation. The motion of fabricated biohybrid robot was enhanced because the differentiation of muscle bundles and the electrical conductivity of the hydrogel composed of muscle bundles were improved by HA-AuNPs. In addition, biohybrid robot showed changes in the motion by inotropic drugs. In conclusion, this fabricated biohybrid robot has possibility to applied for neuromuscular disease drug screening by combining nervous tissues such as brain organoids.
