초록/요약
South Korea has been appraised as the successful development case for its rapid economic development. However, the status quo of society is revealing a high risk of social crisis. Why is South Korean suffering from such problems after achieving unprecedented economic growth? This study points out the very system, which has once underpinned the economic development, as the fundamental cause. Captured in the framework of orthodox development, South Korea had overwhelmingly focused on economic growth during its early days of industrialization, resulting in jeopardizing social welfare and stability. Notably, this thesis claims that the economy-oriented development that has stemmed from the Park Chung-Hee regime has penetrated throughout modern South Korea and continues to play a significant impact on the present day. This research traces the legacy of the developmentalism in modern and contemporary history of South Korea. In the process, it demonstrates how the aftermath of orthodox development has hoisted the social risk of South Korean society.
