Development of polyamine solvents and a rate-based simulator for absorption-based carbon capture processes

초록/요약

Aqueous amine absorption technology is considered the most mature CO2 capture technology from large CO2 emission sources such as coal-fired power plants. However, the technology needs still further improvements for commercial deployment. The technical key features to improve include the development of a solvent with low regeneration energy and high stability and an energy-efficient process configuration and design. The purpose of this study was to develop new aqueous amine solvents and a related in-house process simulator for CO2 capture. The study has been conducted in three stages: developing an efficient solvent screening system, choosing high performance solvents through testing various candidate solvents, and developing a rate-based process simulator. Attention was paid to the possibility of polyamines as CO2 capture solvents, and as a result, polyamine-based solvent, MAB-N could be proposed, that are expected to show very low thermal regeneration energy and very high thermochemical stability.
