초록/요약
본 연구는 경제정책불확실성(Economic Policy Uncertainty; EPU) 지수 및 기타 재무 변수들이 기업의 현금 보유에 미치는 영향을 분석함과 동시에 분석의 강건성을 확인한다. 본 연구의 주요한 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, EPU 지수와 기업의 현금 보유간에 유의미한 양의 관계가 나타났다. 둘째, 기업의 현금 보유 결정에 있어 한국의 EPU 지수보다 세계 EPU지수가 더 영향력이 더 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 마지막으로 지난 연도의 EPU 지수 또한 이번 연도 현금 보유 결정에 간접적인 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과들은 불확실성에 대비하고자 하는 현금의 예비적 목적이 기업의 현금 보유 수준을 결정하는데 기여하고 있음을 시사한다.

This study analyzed the effects of the Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) index and some financial variables on firm's cash holdings. It also checked the robustness of the analyses. The main findings of this study are as follows: First, the EPU index showed a significant positive relationship to the firm's cash holdings. Second, it was analyzed that the global EPU index is more influential than Korea's EPU index in determining whether a firms has cash holdings. Finally, last year's EPU index also indirectly affected this year's cash holding decision. These results suggest that a preliminary objective of cash to prepare for uncertainty contributes to determining the level of firm's cash holdings.
