The Chinese Yuan poetic drama, “The Injustice to Dou E” and the Korean classical literary novel “Spring Festival” have many similarities, specifically the characters and theme. Therefore, this article aims to comparatively study the two works in the same standard. The article construct is mainly made up of the cause, the development, the climax, and ending of the story. To be more specific, the main protagonists from the work pieces have distinctive, unyielding characteristics, as well as miserable life experiences, however the endings are not very much alike. For examples, in “The Injustice to Dou E”, Dou E dies due to her hatred persecuted by officals and even though her father was rehabilitated, he unfortunately met his death. On the other hand, the story of “Spring Festival” ends in a more upbeat manner; Chunxiang finally enjoys a family reunion despite her suffering from becoming a prostitute, concubine, and prisoner, as well as her experience in heart-breaking separation with Li Menglong. In terms of the themes for these two literary works, “The Injustice to Dou E” is more about reflecting the wrath of the people living in a dark society and their helplessness against it, whereas “Spring Festival, in spite of having a grievance against the society of the time, still puts hope on the government and carries on self-redemption by means of literary works.
