Membrane Biophysics Studies: Microscopic Imaging, Surface Scattering, and Langmuir Techniques

초록/요약

The structure of membrane and the biological processes have been mimicked by using model Langmuir monolayer and solid-supported bilayer as membrane platforms. By means of a complementary techniques such as microscopy, surface scattering and Langmuir techniques, the physical and structural changes of membranes and incorporated biological molecules can be characterized. In this thesis, we report the role of lipids in not only constructing and maintaining the structure and macroscopic topography of membranes, but also potentially carrying out biological processes with or without the incorporation of biological molecules such as cholesterol, proteins or peptides.
