Forty Years of Paradox: The Impact of Domestic Sources on Sino-Japan Relations

초록/요약

Since China and Japan have been on bad terms for the whole of the Twentieth Century, a friendly normalization of relations between these two countries would be truly transformational for East Asia, representing the most important development after WWII. There is now sufficient momentum in the bilateral relationship for the two sides to seriously map out a path toward a robust and genuine reconciliation. However, the Sino-Japan relations fell into the most severe situation due to Japan’s “Diaoyu Dao/Senkaku Islands Nationalization” in September 2012 since Sino-Japan diplomatic relation was reestablished in 1972. On the basis of the contemporary situation, the main purpose of this research is trying to analyze the factors that influence Sino-Japan relations, with a focus on domestics sources. Aiming at addressing domestic factors, this paper argues that along with the fundamental interest conflicts of the two countries, domestic sources also account for important part in Sino-Japan relations, the motives for relationship transformation mainly derived from national and foreign policies that led by internal elements, also, the factors that influence foreign policies will be analyzed as original causation. Based on this, the future and developing trend of Sino-Japan relations or the realization of the normalization of Sino-Japan relation could be examined, meanwhile, policy recommendation as well as conclusion would be discussed in the end.
