초록/요약
As a constantly focused area, the field of automotive safety produces many results from researche. In order to provide safety to drivers and passengers, NCAP is evaluating the star rating of the vehicle. If predicting the NCAP results is possible, it saves time and cost and helps the design as well. Finite element simulations are widely used in the safety field of automobiles, however, they take too much time on calculation, and high accuracy of vehicle model and dummy model are required. It is more meaningful to find simple methods to predict the test results. In this research, the results of 249 North American NCAP tests published from 2011 to 2016 showed that there is a great correlation between chest deflection and vehicle star rating. In addition, simple mathematical models were used to predict chest deceleration and chest deflection. The steepest descent method was used to optimize the models. 95 vehicles were selected from the NCAP tests and used for testing the accuracy of the models by comparing the predicted results with the actual test results.
