초록/요약
성범죄 피해자 책임전가는 성차별주의와 강한 연관을 갖고 있다고 알려져 있다. 성차별주의에서의 성차가 기존 연구에서 반복적으로 검증되었으나, 그럼에도 몇몇 연구들은 여성들도 남성들과 비슷한 수준의 성범죄 피해자 책임전가에 관여한다고 주장하였다. 이는 여성의 성범죄 피해자 책임전가에 성차별주의 외의 다른 변인이 개입될 여지가 있다는 것을 알려준다. 본 연구에서는 성범죄 피해자 책임전가에 있어서 남성과 여성이 다른 동기를 가질 것이라고 보고, 성범죄 피해자 책임전가와 근원적 동기의 관계의 근저에서 성별이 어떠한 역할을 하는지 알아보았다. 근원적 동기 척도는 진화적으로 사회적인 도전을 극복하기 위해 진화한 7개의 동기들을 포함한다. 최근 연구들은 근원적 동기가 다양한 사회 행동을 설명할 수 있을 정도로 광범위하며, 따라서 본 연구에서는 근원적 동기를 성범죄 피해자 책임전가 기저에 있는 동기에서의 성차가 어떻게 나타나는지 살펴볼 이상적인 수단으로 생각하였다. 정리하자면, 본 연구는 성별이 근원적 동기와 성범죄 피해자 책임전가를 조절하는지 알아보았다. 본 연구에서는 총 191명의 연구참여자가 설문조사를 통해 모집되었다. 연구에서 흥미로운 성차가 연구를 발견되었다. 지위 동기는 남녀 관계없이 성범죄 피해자 책임전가에 영향을 미치는 반면, 남성의 성범죄 피해자 책임전가는 자기 보호, 배우자 유지- 이별우려 동기와, 여성의 성범죄 피해자 책임전가는 질병 기피 동기와 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 근원적 동기가 성범죄 피해자 책임전가에 미치는 영향이 성별에 따라 조절되는지 자기보호, 질병기피, 지위, 배우자 유지-이별 우려 동기를 대상으로 알아본 결과, 배우자 유지- 이별우려 동기와 성별의 상호작용은 유의하게 피해자 책임전가를 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 자기보호, 질병기피, 지위 동기의 성별과의 상호작용은 통계적으로 유의한 수준에 미치지 못하였다. 이러한 결과는 자기보호, 질병기피, 지위, 배우자 유지-이별 우려 동기가 잠재적으로 성범죄 피해자 책임전가에 관여하는 행동의 근저에 있는 동기의 성차를 설명할 수 있는 후보라는 것을 보여준다.

Rape victim blaming has been shown to be strongly associated with sexism. Although gender differences in sexism are well-documented, several studies have reported that females blamed a rape victim as much as did males. This indicates that other factors than sexism would be responsible for rape victim blaming by females. In other words, I predicted that males and females would have different motives to engage in rape victim blaming and the present research attempted to find such gender differences in motives underlying rape victim blaming. Toward this end, the present research explored potential gender differences in the relationship between fundamental motives and tendency to blame rape victims. Fundamental motives consist of seven subordinate motives evolved to overcome social challenges during the human evolution. Recent studies show that fundamental motives are broad enough to explain various social behaviors and thus, I thought that they would be an ideal candidate to explore potential gender differences in motives underlying rape victim blaming. To sum up, this research examined whether and (if so) how gender might moderate the relations between fundamental motives and rape victim blaming. In this research, 191 participants were recruited from undergraduate students. Interesting gender differences were identified in the research. More specifically, regardless of gender, status motive was positively related to rape victim blaming. Victim blaming of males and mate retention-breakup concern and self-protection motives showed positive relationship. Victim blaming of female was positively related to disease avoidance motive. The moderation effect analyses were conducted to examine whether gender moderates relationship fundamental motives and rape victim blaming. Whereas the gender X self-protection and the gender X disease avoidance interactions failed to reach the conventional level of statistical significance, the gender X mate retention-breakup concern interaction were statistically significant. The results suggests that fundamental motives may be a potential candidate that can explain gender differences in motives underlying one’s tendency to engage in rape victim blaming.
