Prediction of the press fit force and investigation of phenomena during the process

초록/요약

The press fit process is a process in which a part is assembled into the other parts by pressure from the press using the relationship of tolerance designed between several parts. However, there is no method for predicting and pre-verifying the press fit force changes based on changing process conditions. This results in the selection of a press whose capacity is excessive or deficient. Therefore, this research was conducted to solve these problems. The purpose of this paper is to develop a numerical model and procedure to effectively predict press fit force by analyzing the press fit automatic process. First, the press fit force and stresses were calculated simply through a theoretical equation. Then, a numerical model to predict the press fit force for assembling the three parts simultaneously was developed. A 2D model was made for the ease of simulation and the reduction of time. A testing machine for a simple press fit process experiment was used to validate the model. Next, the causes of phenomena occurring during the process were identified using the numerical model. In particular, phenomena in which the slope of the force curve changes or the force increases rapidly were analyzed. Methods to predict and solve these phenomena will be suggested. Also, investigation of stresses enable to judge breakages and defects. By this way, guidelines on tolerance and specification of press will be proposed.
