Analysis on Nonlinear Elasticity of a Parametric Oscillator Based on Phase Difference

Various piezoelectric cantilevers are used for energy harvesting system. On energy harvesting, it is important to convert wasted energy such as vibration energy to available energy like electricity. Efficiency of piezoelectric energy harvesting is proportional to amplitude of beam deflection so understanding nonlinearity of the system is important to predict amount of generating energy. When excitation forces are applied to the longitudinal direction of a cantilever, the nonlinear response to the parametric excitation occurs showing hysteresis and jump phenomenon. The nonlinear analysis is performed by simplifying the beam vibration as Duffing’s equation. The amplitude and phase of the parametric resonance and the up- and down-frequencies of jump phenomenon are analytically determined. Experimental results using piezoelectric cantilevers are compared the analytical predictions.
