Application of concentration polarization for the preparation of lipid membraness

In this study, we focused a microfluidic device utilizing concentration polarization phenomena near permselective membrane interfaces for concentration of lipid molecules. Compared to previous method of preparing lipid molecules for experiment, concentration device using ion concentration polarization propose faster and more efficient method. We fabricated microchannel and nanochannel following general PDMS chip fabrication process. We visualized the behavior of lipid molecules in anodic side under applying electric field. The area of concentration measured along the microchannel. The thesis comprises three main parts: First part is experimental study on surface area regulation of lipid bilayer under mechanical lateral strain. Second part is the fluorescence intensity and the depletion area difference depending on various parameters. Also applying electrically neutral fluorescence to concentration polarization, new visualization method proposed visualizing the actual image of chloride ion’s behavior affected by electroosmosis itself and excluded interference of electric flows. Last part is, the scope of this thesis, lipid concentration utilizing ion concentration polarization is proposed for faster and more efficient bio-chemical based experiments.
