지역 문화 교육을 위한 지역 방언 교육 내용 연구

본고는 지역 방언이 반영하는 다양한 층위의 지역 문화에 주목하여 지역 문화 교육을 위한 지역 방언 교육의 가능성을 모색한 연구이다. 국어교육에서 ‘지역’에 주목한 연구들은 ‘지역 문화 교육에 관한 연구’, ‘지역 방언 교육에 관한 연구’, ‘지역 문학에 관한 연구’로 나누어 볼 수가 있다. 본고의 문제 의식은 바로 이 지점으로부터 출발한다. ‘지역 문화’와 ‘지역 방언’ 그리고 ‘지역 문학’을 각각 분절적으로 교육하는 것 대신 하나로 통합하여 지역 문화 교육을 위한 지역 방언 교육의 내용을 마련하자는 것이다. 이를 위해 지역 방언을 고정적이고 탈맥락적으로 바라보던 것에서 벗어나 지역 공동체 구성원들의 삶의 모습이 역동적으로 드러나는 언어로 새롭게 바라보고자 하였다. 지역 방언의 언어적 요소를 단순히 텍스트 속에서 확인, 관찰하는 것을 넘어서서 궁극적으로 지역 방언을 통해 다양한 맥락과 지역 문화적 요소들을 살펴봄으로써, 지역 방언이 가지는 다양한 층위의 문화적인 특성에 주목한 것이다. 이는 학습자에게 ‘지식’으로 지역 방언을 가르치는 것이 아니라, 다양한 텍스트를 통해 직접 ‘경험’할 수 있도록 학습자의 실제적 언어 경험에 부합하는 교육 내용이 필요하다는 것을 함의한다. 이때 논의하고자 한 핵심은 지역 방언은 표준어와 마찬가지로 독자적인 체계를 가지고 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 즉, 개별적인 사실들을 단순히 나열하고 암기하도록 하는 ‘지식’ 전달 차원의 교육 내용이 아니라, 이러한 개별적인 사실들을 통어하는 상위 개념으로서의 체계에 대한 ‘원리’를 이해하도록 하는 것이 중요하다. 요컨대 학습자에게 지역 방언이 독자적인 체계를 가진 언어라는 것을 ‘원리’적인 측면에서 이해시키고, 이를 바탕으로 지역 방언에 내재된 지역 문화적 가치를 ‘경험’하도록 한 뒤, 지역 방언에 대한 오해와 편견을 불식시키는 데 기여할 수 있는 교육 내용을 구안하고자 하였다. 지역 문화 교육을 위한 지역 방언 교육 내용을 추출하기 위해 구비문학 텍스트에서부터 현대 문학 텍스트, 영화와 인터넷 만화와 같은 매체언어 텍스트에 이르기까지 다양한 텍스트를 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 이는 학습자들의 풍부한 언어 경험을 위해서 실제 언어 사용의 현실과 맞닿아 있는 여타의 다양한 텍스트를 고려한 결과이다. 본고는 기존의 규범적이고 처방적으로 접근하였던 지역 방언 교육의 한계를 극복하고 구체적 맥락 속에서 학습자들이 다양한 텍스트를 통해 언어적 경험을 할 수 있도록 지역 방언의 교육 내용을 재구성하고 구체화하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 이는 학습자들이 지역 방언의 문화적 가치와 의의에 대해서 탐색할 수 있도록 함과 동시에 새로운 문화 창조의 주체자가 될 수 있음을 적극적으로 고려하는 교육 내용이다.

This study examines the role of regional dialect education in the regional culture education by focusing on the diverse local cultures. In Korean education, studies on 'regions' are divided into three categories: 'studies on regional culture education', ' studies on regional dialect education', and 'studies on regional literature'. The present study, however, shows the way to integrate culture, dialect, and literature education together in order to provide the content of regional dialect education for the regional culture education. Accordingly, this study does not view a dialect as a static and decontexualized language, but as a dynamic language which reflects lives of people in local communities. In addition, the current study investigates various aspects of cultures by focusing on diverse contexts and cultural factors. This has some pedagogical implications that educational practitioners need to have learners 'experience' various texts and provide them with authentic materials which correspond to learner's real life, instead of teaching explicit knowledge of regional dialects. A key issue here is a regional dialect which has its own system like a standard language. Consequently, this study suggests educational contents which include principles of such systems. In conclusion, the present study contributes to design educational contents which help learners understand that a regional dialect has its own system with 'principles', and have them 'experience' regional cultural values of dialects. Ultimately, this educational contents hope to challenge existing prejudices and misunderstandings of regional dialects. Various materials, including literature of oral tradition, contemporary literature, and media language, are analyzed for the educational contents of regional dialect education. Diverse texts has been considered to reflect learners' real lives and provide learners with a lot of language experiences within context. This study is considered meaningful in that it contributes to overcome limitations of existing educational contents and encourage learners to have language experiences in contexts through various texts. This educational contents of regional dialects help learners explore cultural values and importance of regional dialects and furthermore, be founders of a creating a new culture.
