학습자 맞춤형 수업을 위한 학습관리시스템(LMS) 어플리케이션의 개발 및 적용연구

A study on the Development and Application of LMS Mobile Application to Promote Learner-centered Teaching

본 연구는 학교현장의 교사들이 보다 개별화된 학습자 맞춤형 수업을 실천하는 데 현실적으로 어떤 어려움을 겪고 있는지 살펴보고 이러한 상황의 개선을 위해 스마트 테크놀로지를 활용한 교육용 어플리케이션을 개발해 그 효과를 검증하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 삼았다. 먼저 미래 사회가 요구하는 다양한 역량을 갖춘 인재를 육성하는 데 있어 학급 및 개별 학습자의 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 학습체제가 선행되어야 함에 따라, 80여 명의 현장 교사들을 대상으로 맞춤형 수업 준비 현황에 대한 요구 설문조사를 실시하였다. 조사에 응한 교사의 75.4%는 간단히 교재에 메모를 하거나 인덱스를 붙이는 방법에서부터 스마트 폰과 컴퓨터를 활용하거나 따로 달력 및 수첩을 마련해 수업 상황과 진도, 학생 특이사항을 기록하는 등 맞춤형 수업을 위한 다양한 노력을 하고 있었다. 교사들이 전 차시 교실에서 일어난 구체적인 수업 상황과 학습자 별 특성, 학습의 내용 및 진도 등의 정보를 보다 잘 기억하고 관리할수록 효과적인 학습자 맞춤형 수업이 이루어진다. 하지만 현실적으로 일주일에 평균 스무 시간 이상을 수업하고 학급 당 학생 수 30명 이상의 과밀학급을 가르치는 열악한 공교육 현장에서, 교사들이 학습자 맞춤형 수업을 세밀하게 기획한다는 것은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니다. 81.3%의 교사들이 이 같은 문제 인식에 공감하며 효과적인 학습자 맞춤형 수업을 돕는 학습관리 어플리케이션이 개발된다면 사용해 볼 의사가 있다고 응답하였다. 이 같은 현장 교사들의 목소리를 반영해 본 연구에서 개발한 교육용 솔루션 ‘쌤 어디요’는 크게 수업 시간표, 수업상황 기록, 분류 별 기록 보기, 수업 예보, 공지 게시 및 댓글 달기, 카카오톡 공유 기능 등을 주요 서비스로 제공하여 교사의 학습자 맞춤형 수업을 돕도록 설계되었다. ‘쌤 어디요’ 어플리케이션의 사용이 교사가 보다 학습자의 특성이 고려된 수업을 시행하는데 긍정적인 영향을 준다는 사실을 검증하기 위해 학교 급 별 각 1개 교에서 3명의 교사가 6주간 매일 어플리케이션을 사용해 수업을 하였다. 이후 해당 학교 222명의 학생들을 대상으로 Likert 5점 척도 평가 설문조사 실시하여 ‘맞춤형 수업에 대한 어플리케이션의 긍정적 효과’에 대해 신뢰계수 .822에 평균 4.40이라는 결과를 얻어 통계적으로 유의한 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 시범 적용에 참여한 교사들을 대상으로 FGI 및 개별 심층 면담을 실시하여 본 연구를 통해 개발된 ‘쌤 어디요’ 어플리케이션이 학습자 맞춤형 수업에 긍정적이고 유의미한 효과를 보여주고 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 교사가 교육 현장에서 인식한 문제 상황에 대해 직접 스마트 테크놀로지를 활용한 솔루션을 개발하고 이를 현장에 적용시켜 그 효과를 검증한 연구라는 점에서 가장 큰 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 하지만 어플리케이션을 학교 현장에 적용하고 그 효과를 검증하는데 있어 소규모 집단을 대상으로 약식으로 시범적용이 수행되어, 그 효과를 일반화하기 위해서는 보다 광범위한 후속 연구가 요구된다.

The purpose of this study is to validate the effectiveness of using smart technology will help teachers to provide learner centered teaching in classroom while understanding their difficulties. To cultivate core talents equipped with various capabilities for future society, the analysis and preparation for each individual learners characteristics is a must. Hence the needs analysis survey of about eighty teachers was conducted to understand the preparation of such a learner centered class. About 75.4% teachers responded that they make various effort to prepare each class based on learners characteristics. For example, some utilizes sticky notes or index cards to make notes while others use smart phone or computer programs to mark progress of each class and leave learner specific characteristics and so on. This proves that the more teachers manage the specifics an the progress of each class, the better and effective class education will be. However, in reality the public school teachers have more than twenty hours of classes per week. Considering that there are more than thirty students per each class, it is challenging for them to prepare each class with learner centered program. The 81.3% teachers acknowledged such a problem and responded that they willing to adapt any smart phone application that helps them better manage and prepare classes based on the characteristics of learners. The web application called, ‘Ssam, Where were we?’, is an educational solution which provides various features to help teachers so they can better prepare each class. This application provide following features; management of class time table, availability to make notes for each class, sorting capacity to search class notes, notification with previous class notes, availability to make announcement to each class, allowing students to make comments and sharing capacity through SNS. To evaluate the positive effect of the application, three teachers, each from elementary, middle and high school, used the application to prepare the learner centered class for six weeks. After analyzing the result of the application usage with the pioneering group, the five-point Likert scale survey was conducted to two hundred twenty two students who learned from these teachers. The group responded that usage of this application demonstrated the positive effect on learner centered class. It shows Cronbach Alpha of .822 where the average point is 4.40. This verifies the adaption of this application has the high level of statistical significance. Additionally, an in-depth Focus Group Interview was conducted on the participating teachers to collect qualitative data. It confirmed that the adaption of ‘Ssam, where were we?’ application influenced a positive impact on learner centered education to teachers who prepare classes day to day. This study demonstrates the significance that a teacher who encounters improvements on everyday classroom environment, defines the problem, develops a solution utilizing smart technology and applies to validate its effect. However since the application was applied to a small pioneer group for rather short period of time, further and continuous study will be recommended for general adaption to broader groups.
