This study provides a proposal of teaching and learning model that personality education emphasized in 2009 Revision of Korean Curriculum can be implemented meaningfully in Korean education field by using middle school Korean education personality teaching material as a medium. To do so, researcher sets Project-based learning for personality education in Korean language education textbook that Ministry of Education and Science Technology(MEST) and Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education conducted research and development as a subject of analysis to discuss the feature of textbook, the analysis of teaching and learning contents, the defect, and solution plan. This paper starts with that in the essence of Korean education, personality education is already placed and before 2009 Revision of Korean Curriculum regulated a characteristic of Korean education as a personality education, Korean education has contributed to learner’s cultivation of personality. In addition to this, researcher realizes that to take priority over government policy for education, personality education in Korean education should be implemented as a thing that is closed to the essence of Korean education, that is the way of educating a language. To do so, this paper analyzes a status and content of personality education in curriculum layer first. And in the process of that, this paper try to find the cooperation method of personality education textbook of middle school and standard of accomplishment related to personality. The analysis of curriculum layer and textbook layer is all set to find relevance of ‘Korean Core Competence’. It is because the education based on core competence with Korean characteristic can be named as a Korean personality education. To set the foundation of reconstruction, researcher presents condition of personality education and the developmental feature of middle level learner based on the research data. It is for this paper about Korean personality education teaching material not to be just part of theoretical discussion but to reflect the substantiality. And the layout for teaching and learning consist of learning goal and selection of content, teaching and learning model and procedure plan, plan for teaching and learning activity, plan for utilization of learning material and medium, and plan for student evaluation that can assure concreteness and systemicity. Teaching and learning model presented in this paper focuses on getting learner to solve a project in a group learning activity form. Accordingly, learning object of correspond class has been modified. It was for the integration among ‘Project-Centered activity’, ‘Theme-Centered integrated Education’ and ‘Media Language Education’ so that it can be the learning and teaching model that contributes to the personality education. If we consider personality education in Korean education as the process of solving problems with language, this paper can give some contributes below. First, we can consider the unique field of Korean education, that is Korean. Second, personality education can be accomplished exhaustively intentionally and planned. Third, through project learning, not only learner’s personality can be educated but creativity can be. Fourth, it can provide a new direction of personality education in school education with the result that personality of learners can be grown up through curriculum. Like it cannot be accomplished for personality of students to be grown up by short-term education, personality education by curriculum should be complied with consistent research and implementation. And to find the evident direction for personality education and the principles to approach to that, it should be put first to contemplate what the essence of Korean education is. Hope useful research to be activated so that it can lead the field of Korean education with giving the direction for personality education which has been the most need-to-be-reinforced assignment in the way of getting academic identity and with giving the suggestion of way to implement personality education in Korean.
