부모양육태도와 연애 두려움의 관계: 불안정 성인애착과 낮은 자아존중감 및 자기 불일치의 매개효과

초록/요약
본 연구에서는 애착 이론과 선행연구를 바탕으로 부모양육태도가 불안정 성인애착, 자아존중감, 자기 불일치를 통해서 연애 두려움에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 살펴보았다. 연구를 위해 서울 지역에 소재한 4년제 대학 2개와 지방에 소재한 4년제 대학, 3년제 대학 각 1개, 총 4개 대학의 재학생 373명으로부터 자료를 수집하였다. 구조방정식 모형을 통한 자료분석 결과 측정모형이 자료에 적합한 것으로 나타났고, 부모양육태도와 연애 두려움의 직접 경로를 포함하지 않은 완전매개모형을 최종 구조모형으로 선택하였다. 구체적인 경로를 살펴보면, 부모양육태도는 회피애착, 불안애착, 자아존중감을 통해서 연애 두려움을 예측하는 것으로 나타났고, 자기 불일치를 통한 간접 경로는 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 자기 불일치와 연애 두려움의 상관관계가 통계적으로 유의미함에도 불구하고 매개효과가 나타나지 않은 원인을 규명하기 위해 중다회귀분석을 통해 사후 검증을 실시하였다. 자기 불일치가 회피애착 또는 불안애착과 공동 변인으로 투입된 경우 통계적으로 유의미하였으나, 자아존중감과 공동으로 투입된 경우 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 관련 후속 연구 및 상담실제에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate psychological mechanism by which adult attachment patterns, self-esteem, and self-discrepancy mediate the relationship between perceived parental maltreatment in childhood and fear of romantic relationship in adulthood. A total of 373 college student participants completed survey packets that consist of five measures selected in accordance with the purpose of this study. The results revealed that anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, and low self-esteem, but not self-discrepancy, fully mediated the relationship between parental maltreatment and fear of intimacy. This finding suggests that clinicians need to focus not only on the impact of maladaptive parenting in childhood on fear of intimacy in adulthood but also on clients’ poor self-image and anxious or avoidant attachment patterns in close relationship when working with those who seek counseling due to fear of intimacy in romantic relationship. Limitations of this study and potential future research were discussed.
