Influence of Electron Beam Irradiation on Polyamide 12/Montmorillonite nanocomposites by Ultrasound processing

The aim of this thesis is to improve mechanical properties of Nylon 12 (PA12) / organo-modified montmorillonite (Cloisite 30B, C30B) prepared by melt blending, using two techniques that are Ultrasound and Electron beam. Impact strength of PA12 nanocomposites was reduced with clay addition. The other hand, using ultrasound, Impact strength was increased about 16%. Young’s modulus and tensile strength are increased by about 37% and 26%, respectively. Besides, we indicated that crystallinity of nylon 12 increased up to 300kGy by irradiation. This is due to recrystallization by electron beam irradiation. Young’s modulus of nylon 12/clay nanocomposites increased up to 300kGy by irradiation with significant sacrifice in impact strength. We may hypothesize that this is due to increase brittle crystalline on nylon 12 matrix by electron beam. We investigated mechanical, thermal behavior of nylon 12 according to type of crystalline formed by electron beam and ultrasound. Moreover, we confirm that using electron beam with ultrasound, it will be able to manufacture higher functional polymer.
