우리나라의 공연시장은 매년 크게 확대되고 있고, 이 중에서도 뮤지컬 산업은 다른 문화산업 분야에 비해 가파른 성장세를 보이고 있다. 이제 뮤지컬은 단순한 예술 작품이 아닌, 하나의 거대한 시장을 형성하는 상품으로서의 가치가 대두되고 있는 것이다. 그러나 뮤지컬 산업이 그 규모만큼 질적으로도 성장하고 있는가에 대한 평가는 미지수이다. 일각에서는 뮤지컬 산업의 거품 논란이 일고 있으며, 여러 문제점들이 지적되고 있다. 본 연구는 뮤지컬 <미션>에서 발생한 이러한 공연예술상품의 리콜 현상의 과정과 원인을 되짚어보고, 리콜이 관객들에게 어떤 효과가 있었는지, 언론은 이를 어떻게 뒷받침하고 있는지, 실제로 판매에는 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지 알아보기 위해 인터뷰와 문서정보를 자료원으로 하여 사례분석 방법론을 통해 연구를 진행하였다. 이를 바탕으로 공연예술상품의 리콜을 일반 공산품에 적용되는 리콜과 비교하였을 때 나타나는 차이점과 그 효용성에 대하여 분석하고, 앞으로 유사한 상황이 발생할 경우 공연예술상품 리콜의 판단 근거와 방향을 제시하고자 하였다.

The market of South Korea's performances have been greatly expanded each year, especially the musical industry compared to other cultural industries are showing rapid growth. Now that the musical is not only just a work of art, but also products that formed a huge market. However, it is uncertain that the size of the musical industry is also growing as much as qualitatively. Some people make controversy about musical industry's bubble and pointed out several problems.
