East Asian Economic Integration and the Role of China

초록/요약

While achieving high economic growth by its own way, East Asia has also witnessed a market-driven integration itself. East Asian economies have experienced an increasing intra-regional trade and become more interdependent on each other. Among them, the most dynamic economy is China. With a higher growth rate than those of East Asia as a whole, China contributes to both the trade expansion of East Asia and the deepening of intra-regional trade. China has realized the importance of cooperation with other East Asian members; and takes positive attitude toward East Asian integration. Nevertheless, East Asia also faces challenges on its way toward economic integration, such as the rivalry between China and Japan; and the dominance of US in East Asia.
