초록/요약
이 연구는 본래 종결어미가 아닌 문법 형식이 종결어미로 기능하게 되는 과정과 그 통사·의미적 특징을 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. ‘-고 하- + 접속어미’의 간접 인용 구성을 중심으로 통합형 종결어미가 만들어지는 현상을 확인하고, 현대국어의 통합형 종결어미 목록을 재정립한다. 2장에서는 통합형 어미를 논의하기 위한 기본적인 개념들을 살핀다. 우선 통합형 어미를 정의하고 그 식별 기준을 설정한다. 통합형 종결어미를 식별하는 기준은 크게 ‘의미 차원의 독자성’과 ‘통사적 환원 가능성’이다. 이를 바탕으로 통합형 종결어미의 유형을 살펴본다. 마지막으로 이 유형들이 문법화의 과정을 보여주는 것을 확인하고, 이 글에서 정의하는 문법화가 선행 연구와 어떻게 다른지 살펴볼 것이다. 3장에서는 2장의 내용을 바탕으로 현대국어 인용 구성과 접속어미의 융합 형식을 대상으로 통합형 종결어미 목록을 설정한다. 이 글에서 연구 대상으로 하는 형식은 통합형 종결어미와 통합형 준종결어미로 나뉜다. 통합형 종결어미는 통사적 구성으로 환원 되지 않고, 원형식과 의미 차원의 독자성을 갖는다. 통합형 준종결어미는 통사적 구성으로 환원되지만 원형식과 의미 차원의 독자성을 갖는다. 4장에서는 통합형 종결어미의 통사·의미적 특징에 대해 논의한다. 통합형 종결어미의 통사적 특징을 논의하기 위하여 선행절에서의 주어 통합 관계, 서술어 통합 관계, 선문말 어미 통합 관계를 살피고 문체법을 확인한다. 통합형 종결어미는 증거 양태의 의미적 특징을 보이는데 이에 대하여 살펴본다. 5장에서는 논의를 요약하고 남은 과제에 대해 언급함으로써 결론으로 삼는다.

This thesis aims to reveal the process the functional shift of endings from nonfinal to final and to explain the syntactic characteristics and semantic function of them. To achieve this, I establish the criteria to identify final compound endings and present the list of final compound endings of contemporary Korean. In Chapter 2, I focus on the fundamental notions to discuss compound endings. First, I define the compound ending and establish the criteria to identify compound endings. The criteria are ‘identity in the aspect of sense' and ‘possibility to restore original syntactic constructions'. Then, I examine the types of final compound endings. Lastly, I confirm that these types show the ‘process’ of grammaticalization. In Chapter 3, I extract final compound endings in the case of the fused form of quotation constructions and conjunctive endings on the discussions in Chapter 2. Final compound endings are divided into two classes. The one is the final compound endings and the other is the semi-final compound endings. In Chapter 4, I discuss the syntactic characteristics and semantic function of them. To explain the syntactic characteristics, I examine the properties of subject, the properties of predicate and syntagmatic relations of pre-final endings and sentence types. Futhermore, I explain the meanings of final compound endings. They are related to evidence modality. In Chapter 5, I summarize the discussion and present the remaining problems for the future research.
