초록/요약
본 논문의 목적은 이청준 소설을 중심으로 '용서'의 문학교육적 의미를 고찰하는 데 있다. 용서란 피해자가 자신의 부정적 감정을 극복하고 상대 가해자를 인간적으로 이해하는 과정과, 가해자가 자신의 잘못을 속죄하는 일을 의미한다. 인간의 윤리적 의지와 인식의 전환을 통해 이루어지는 용서의 과정은 개인과 공동체 모두가 보다 조화로운 삶의 방향으로 나아가게 한다. 즉, 용서는 주체의 자발적인 반성과 타자에 대한 인간적 공감을 바탕으로 하며, 이는 인간 사회에서 벌어지는 복수와 상처의 악순환을 끊는 유일한 해결책이 된다. 그리고 궁극적으로 주체와 타자의 삶을 회복하게 하는 일이다. 본고에서는 '용서'의 이러한 가치에 주목하여, 문학교육 속에서 '용서'의 의미를 살펴보았다. 문학교육은 ‘궁극적으로 인간을 변화시키는 것이며, 바람직한 삶의 방향을 정립하는 활동’으로, 윤리적인 기능을 수행한다. 인간의 윤리와 관련한 주제로서 ‘용서’를 다루고자할 때, 이청준의 작품은 큰 의미가 있다. 이청준은 인간의 욕망과 현실의 억압으로 인해 생겨난 사회적 갈등과 상처에 주목한다. 나아가 그의 작품들에서는 이러한 문제들을 극복하기 위한 방안으로서 인간의 ‘용서’가 특징적인 화두로 나타나고 있다. 본고에서는 그의 작품들 중 ｢다시 태어나는 말｣, ｢비화밀교｣, ｢벌레 이야기｣, ｢숨은 손가락｣, ｢가해자의 얼굴｣, ｢신화를 삼킨 섬｣, ｢지하실｣ 총 일곱 편의 소설들을 연구 텍스트로 삼아, 각 작품에 나타난 용서의 양상들을 살펴보았다. 작품 분석은 크게 세 가지 기준으로 나누어 전개되었다. 먼저, ｢다시 태어나는 말｣과 ｢비화밀교｣에서는 주체의 반성적 성찰과 용서를 통한 자기 정립의 과정을 볼 수 있었다. 주체 스스로가 삶에 대한 반성과 용서의 태도를 보이며 다시 자기 정립을 이루는 양상은 인간의 이상적인 윤리적 모습을 보여준다. 하지만 현실에서는 인간의 자기 정립 실패와 용서의 부재 현상이 나타나기도 한다. 따라서 두 번째에서는 ｢벌레 이야기｣, ｢숨은 손가락｣을 통해 용서의 실패 문제와 관련하여, 인간적 존엄성의 상실이 가져오는 인간 실존의 소외 문제에 대하여 알아보았다. 세 번째에서는 ｢가해자의 얼굴｣, 󰡔신화를 삼킨 섬󰡕, ｢지하실｣을 대상으로, 타자의 아픔을 함께 아파하는 정서와 상호 용서를 통해 공동체가 정립되는 양상을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 이와 같은 논의를 바탕으로 하여, 본고의 마지막 장에서는 '용서'를 주제로 한 문학 수업의 실제적인 교수･학습 방안을 제시해보았다. 교수･학습의 텍스트로 이청준의 ｢지하실｣을 선정하였으며, 대화 중심 교수･학습 방법을 활용한 수업 활동을 구성해 본 것이다. 학생들은 수업 중의 활동과 다양한 대화 과정을 통해 작품 속에 나타난 용서의 양상을 파악하고, 궁극적으로는 용서의 의미와 가치에 대해 성찰해보는 경험을 가질 수 있을 것이다. 본고는 '용서'를 주제로 한 의미 있는 문학 경험이 학생들의 정서와 삶에 스며들어 보다 윤리적인 인간으로 성숙하는데 기여할 수 있으리라 기대한다. 또한 개인의 삶과 정서를 고양시킬 뿐만 아니라, 타자의 삶을 이해하는 공동체적 문화를 형성하는데 긍정적 역할을 하는 교육적 의미가 있을 것이라 본다.

The aim of this thesis is to explore the implication of forgiveness in the education of literature with the study of Lee Chung-Joon’s novels. Forgiveness means the whole process that the victim overcomes one’s negative emotions and accepts the opponent with understanding and the opponent becomes penitent for their fault. The process of forgiveness, which requires the ethical willing and the change of the way we think, enables the individual as well as the community to promote the life in harmony. In other words, forgiveness is only possible when it has a deep foundation with self-reflection and understanding of others. This is the only solution that breaks out of the vicious circle of revenge and wound in the human society. Ultimately, it recovers the life of both the victim and the opponent. Having observed in this value of ‘forgiveness’, in this thesis, I would like to explore the implication of ‘forgiveness’ in the education of literature. I believe that the education of literature accomplishes its moral function and ultimately it transforms the human beings and guides the humans to the right direction of life. In this sense, Lee Chung-Joon’s novels have significance for the study dealing with the theme of forgiveness in the aspect of human morality. Lee Chung-Joon contemplates on the conflicts in the society arisen by the human desires and the depression of the reality. Then, he chooses ‘forgiveness’, which is a remarkable notion, as a way to get over all these issues of conflict in his novels. In this thesis, I take 7 notable novels, "A Reborn Word", "Secret Hua-gyo", "The Bug's Story", "The Hidden Finger", "The Face of Assailant", "The Island swallowed the Myth", and "Basement", among his works as the main texts to explore various aspects of forgiveness. The analysis of the novels was explored with three different aspects of forgiveness in large. Firstly, in "The Reborn Word" and "Secret Hua-gyo", I could observe the process of person's growth through self-reflection and forgiveness. This is an ideal process of personal growth that shows a humane way to realize humans’ morality. However, in the reality, we often observe the failure of personal growth and absence of forgiveness. Therefore, secondly, in "The Bug's Story", "The Hidden Finger", I attempt to explore the neglected existential matters caused by the failure of forgiveness which bring us loss of human dignity. Thirdly, in "The Face of Assailant", "The Island swallowed the Myth", "Basement", I observe how the humane community is realized with the sympathetic sharing of others’ wound and mutual forgiveness. Based on all the aspects of forgiveness explored above, in the last chapter, I try to apply the theme of forgiveness for the education of literature with practical teaching-learning plans. I choose Lee Chung-Joon’s novel, "Basement" as the text material for the class and organize the classroom activities with conversational discussion. The students grasp the aspects of forgiveness through the various classroom activities including conversational discussion, and have an opportunity to realize the ultimate value and meaning of forgiveness. In this thesis, I expect that the valuable experience of reading literature influences the participating students and finally distributes to the students’personal growth as moral human being. Furthermore, this experience of reading literature not only exalts a person’s life and culture, but also has the educational significance to build the culture of communal society that has the atmosphere of understanding others’ life.
