Trade liberalization in financial services in Vietnam is rather new in comparison with trade liberalization in goods. Since the end of the 1990s, Vietnam has accelerated its liberalization in trade in financial services on the basis of both unilaterally and multilaterally. Since then the Vietnamese financial industry has been gradually fully-constituted with the strong development of the banking and insurance sector and establishment of the capital market. This thesis analyzes the current development of the Vietnam？s financial industry in the context of its determination for trade liberalization, especially after its accession into WTO. It identifies Vietnam？s international engagements in trade in financial services (mainly stipulated in WTO ？ GATS) and explores the opportunities and challenges provided to Vietnam on its way to fulfill its commitments in this sector. From this analysis, policy suggestions will be derived for the purpose of the sound development of the financial industry. Keywords: Trade Liberalization, Financial Services, Vietnam.
