오늘날 우리 사회는 극대화된 자본주의와 이기주의ㆍ개인주의의 거친 물결 속에, 잃어서는 안 될 소중한 가치와 덕목들을 상실한 채, 더욱 메마르고 혼돈스럽고 폭력적인 모습으로 변해가고 있음을 느낀다. 그 속에서, 인간에게 있어서 사랑의 원천이며 발원지라고 할 수 있을 일상안의 모성과 이와 관련되는 출산과 양육 및 가사노동은, 철저한 자본주의 논리 하에, ‘하찮고 보잘것없는 일’들로 치부되고 무시ㆍ폄하된 채, 이젠 여성들조차도 기피하고 싶은 일들로 간주되기에 이르렀다. 그리고 현대여성학 안에서조차, 이러한 모성과 가족은 여성억압에 있어서, 또는 여성이 ‘자아실현’을 이루어나가는데 있어서 방해가 되는 제 1요소로 간주되어 온 것이 사실이다.
본 논문에서는 이러한 ‘모성성 및 자아실현’의 문제와 관련해 페미니즘 안에서 발견되는 왜곡된 양상들에 대해 비판적으로 분석ㆍ비판ㆍ성찰하는 시간을 갖고, 이를 통해 페미니즘이 보다 따뜻하고 성숙하게 성장해 나갈 수 있는 하나의 계기를 마련해 보고자 한다. 그리고 이를 21세기 현대 여성학이 극복하고 또한 회복해야할 새로운 비전으로 제시하고자 한다.

We feel that these days with the wave of capitalismㆍindividualism and egoism getting more intensified, our society is being changed into wilderㆍmore confused and violent, losing precious values and virtues that we must not lose. In such a current of the time, motherhood and childbirthㆍupbringing and household affairs related to it have been ignored, depreciated as just trivial, unworthy and insignificant to the extent that even women feel like avoiding them. And it is true that even within the modern Feminism, ''motherhood and family'' have been viewed as the foremost factor that is an obstacle to women''s self-realization in the society.
In this thesis, I''m going to have the time to analyse, criticize and reflect distorted aspects found in Feminism, related to these issues, ''motherhood and self-realization'' and I wish Feminism would grow in much wamer and maturer way through this process. And I intend to suggest this as a new vision 21c modern Feminism has to get over and restore.
