목차
This paper investigates the impact of import competition on labor displacement in Korean manufacturing industry. Compared with non-manufacturing industries, the displacement rate of ten year from 1993 to 2003(1998 excluded) was relatively higher in manufacturing industries. It is assumed that the main reason of this higher displacement rate is the increase of import competition in manufacturing industries. Using regression model for the period of 1993-2003, the empirical result shows that import competition has positively influenced the displacement rate in manufacturing. In addition, the share of female workers has also affected the increase of displacement rate in manufacturing. Some characteristics of workers such as the education level and their ages are significant factors in determining the displacement rate. Characteristics of trade-related displaced workers are investigated based on the degree of import competition. Differences in terms of age, education, job tenure and female share between manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries are also examined. In addition, various programs for the employment stability in major countries are introduced and analyzed and in turn, it provides insights on policy implications.
