''백림(伯林)''은 한반도라는 분단국가에 살며 시대의 아픔을 대속하는 스물 셋 꽃다운 여인의 이름이자, 베를린(Berlin)의 가차식 표기이기도 합니다. 백림, 혹은 베를린에로의 여행. Naming이 지닌 함의(含意)에서처럼 짧고도 긴 그녀의 외유(外遊)는 상처를 치유하기 위한 자신의 내면(=백림)으로의 여행이자, 먼저 분단의 아픔을 딛고 합일의 지평에 들어 선 미지(=베를린)로의 여행이기도 합니다. ‘베를린을 꿈꾸었던 백림 남매’의 꿈. 그러나, 그 꿈은 오빠의 죽음으로 인해 산산조각이 납니다. 그리고…그 상처와 상실감은 1967년 동백림 사건에까지 가 닿고 있습니다. 아쉽게도 ‘베를린을 향한 꿈과 상처’는 여전히 현재 진행형인 채로. 부연컨대, ‘백림’을 통하여 ‘베를린’에 대한 화두를 종횡으로 그려 보고 싶었습니다. 즉, 종적으로는 윤이상으로 상징되는 1967년 동백림 사건과 횡적으로는 지리적·물리적 장소로써의 베를린과 분단 한국이 될 것입니다. 그리고 이렇게 ‘종횡으로 펼쳐진 상처들’은 백림과 용칠, 그리고 미하엘이 서로의 짐을 내려 놓고 각기 다른 이념과 언어를 넘어 서게 되는 지점에서 치유를 받게 될 것입니다. ‘백림 혹은 베를린’은 온통 ‘상처 투성이의 꿈‘ 일 터. 그러나…어차피 ‘백림’은 가 닿아야 할 우리의 당위’요, ‘희망의 지점’이라는 명제를 담아 내고 싶었습니다.

‘Pack-Rim’is a woman’s name at the same time it means "Berlin" as well. Sometimes, most of the Korean people use to speak koreanized English letter, so <Pack-Rim> is koreanized "Berlin" too. As you know, Korean peninsula was divided two part which means terrible suffering to Korean. Pack-Rim is symbolized a woman who is 23 years old and Redemption of the suffering in our Country. Journey to Pack-Rim, or Berlin. It is not only a interior journey of this woman(=Pack-Rim) in order to heal her trauma, but also a exterior journey to Berlin that means overcoming suffering of tragic division. Pack-Rim’s Journey to Berlin. She’ll encounter two friends in Berlin. Yong-Chil who came from North-Korea helps her to heal her interior wound. And the other guy is Michael who is preparing ordain the priesthood. She has a brother who had a dream to be Berlin. But unfortuenately he killed himself, so the dream was broken. And her trauma and the feeling of the loss express sorrow case "East-Berlin plot"(1967). Unfortuneately, her dream to Berlin and trauma is present pain now. We’d like to explain dilate some details, the film director will try to describe lengthwise and cross-wise the topic of Berlin thr ough Pack-Rim. Lengthwisely, the great musician Yi-sang Yoon who was symbolized "East-Berlin plot(1967)" and cross-wisely, geographical place, Berlin and tragic division of Korea. Finally, She’ll be cared her trauma which lengthwise and cross-wise by her friends, Yong-chil and Michael. They’ll overcome different language and ideology. Actually ‘Pack-Rim or Berlin’ is "the dream covered with bloody hurt". But, the film director will try to tell Pack-Rim is not only an our what should be and but also the point of our hope in this Film.
