舊韓末『慶南日報』에 관한 一考察 : A Study of Kyung Nam Il Bo(慶南日報) in the Later Yi Dynasty

초록/요약

This thesis is the study of Kyung Nam Il Bo(Kyung Nam Daily Newspaper) that was the only provincial paper, at that time first published by Korean in the later Yi dynasty. KNIB was founded in Jinjoo, Kyung-Sang-nam-do, on 15th, October, 1909. This newspaper was ready to publish on the second month of the year, the leaders were Kim Hong-cho and Kim Young-jin. At that time, Whang chul, local administrator, encouraged and supported this newspaper's foundation. Chang Ji-youn was appointed as the chief editor who has been serviced as the chairman of whang Sung Shin Mun. Probably the perople in Kyung-nam provincial didn't have a strong interest in enlightment. So, the publication of newspaper was accomplished in the need of enlightment in that province. The participants of publicating KNIB are the lanlords and the properties who once served as the lower-level officials. They were familiar with confucianism and interested in the new learning, but they believe that the enlightment of people had to be done among the Yang-ban and confuncian class first. That was the primary reason why this newspaper published with a mixed style of Korean and Chinese characters in it. And the newspaper was ran the form of the stock company, but faced chronic financial deficits because of delay in the payment for the stock. It had circulation of 2,000, among them that nine hundered copies were delivered to the township in Kyung-nam area by two copies and 140 copies distributed to other domestic areas. Efforts to solve the financial problem, through increasing readers and flexible current of money were made only to fail. KNIB mostly stressed upon the development of commerce and industry, education, but intentionally ignored the political aspect of nation's being robbed of power by Japan. Namely, it held a non-political position, playing a role as a provincal newspaper and maintained confusian standpoint. After the Korean-Japanese annexation, the publication of all newspapers were prohibited, but it was exception. Because of the non-political standpoint. But leading article was once disappeared and the pre-censorship was continued. Chang Ji-youn, the chief editor, resigned in August, 1913, and Kweon Do-yong and Kang Jeon were his successors. But they stopped publishing according to order 887 on the financial difficulty in early 1915.
